Comment:
The late Arenawati died neither rich nor poor. Yet, he was a clear pick to be named the national laureate in 1988. Respected by many Arenawati was a former editor with Pustaka Antara, when I first met him early 1970s. He was with the late Ruhi Hayat (Ahmad Boestamam) and Aziz Antara, probably discussing the development of Malay literature. Aziz Antara owned the publishing giant.
